Project Summary

The project involves a multifamily building, comprising 16 dwelling units and originally built in 1930. Historically, the building has been heated by a gas furnace. The owner, who also resides on the property, is eager to transition to a fully electric heat pump system, opting to discontinue the use of gas heating. He is particularly interested in understanding the benefits that an all-electric heat pump system can offer, including potential energy savings, reduced utility costs, and environmental advantages.

Solution

For this specific project, we conducted an on-site assessment to evaluate key factors such as the structural integrity of the walls, the suitability of the installation location, and the heating requirements based on the square footage and layout of each unit. Given the building's configuration with 16 units, most of which are rental properties, we recommended the installation of high-performance ductless mini-split heat pump systems with zoning capabilities. Each unit, typically consisting of one bedroom and one living room, was equipped with two separate indoor units—one for the bedroom and one for the living room. This setup allows for precise temperature control in each room, enhancing comfort for tenants. To further increase convenience, the system can be controlled remotely through a phone app, allowing both tenants and the owner to adjust temperatures and manage the system effortlessly.
